Older Vampires, Night Vision & Preternatural Ability

I've noticed that in the first episode and then in The Ringer (and probably on other occasions), Mick uses a lamp and a torch respectively. Does this mean that Moonlight vampires don't have great night vision (which makes a kinda sense seeing as they're sensitive to sunlight) - or is it because Mick's holding onto his humanity and/or is a ( Read more... )

I suspect it depends on how old the vampire is. Josef could probably do the same stuff Coraline and Lola can, but he might just prefer not to. Since Mick is younger...

I don't have any knowledge of vampire abilities apart from the blood sucking thing, so I didn't expect them to have good night vision. But you could be right, Mick likes to keep his human things...

As for the levitating, both instances you cite, you use the word 'down'. I think Mick has already shown this leaping ability, both down and up. Also he leaps up to save Morgaline from the car in ep 10, yes? I took him literally--that he meant he could not fly around like Superman (or a bat!) but he can be (as you say) preternaturally quick and can leap upwards and fall (safely) downwards way beyond even an athletic human's ability.

If that makes sense. Or maybe I've misunderstood you? I guess what I was trying to say was that I thought Lola and Coraline were just doing the same kinds of super-quick leaps and falls that Mick does.

Well, I think I get you. The thing is, Coraline was on the ceiling almost in opposition to gravity. I think I can handwave it as her just pushing against the corners of the room to stay up and it being easy because she's preternaturally strong.

But Lola... she was leaping down towards Mick and then seemed to... swoop, for want of a better term over him. I've been trying to think of it in terms of her just being that fast but the Superman quote does seem a bit on the spoilers in plain sight side because most people watching a vampire show rarely expect the to fly - unless the vampire in question is Dracula and he's turning into a bat.

Dunno, just struck me as a bit in-jokey at the time. They might just be referencing The Lost Boys, or something.

originaly Superman could 'leap tall building in a single bound' and 'run faster than a speeding train, (or was it a built). He did not originaly fly, that just happened over time.

Lola's swoop is probalby a consistancy goofup on their part, goin for the dramatic picture.

Did that make it as clear as mud?

Hmm, if I'm not mistaken, also in Anne Rice's novels, vampire's powers increase with age, to the point they're able to fly... so, I guess it's a possibility.

When Mick used a flashlight the first thing I though was "Hey, isn't he supposed to see in the dark?"
I guess he isn't then.

Glad it wasn't just me thinking that.

Yeah, for some reason I thought vampires are supposed to have some sort of night vision, but I'm not sure where I got this info from.

I thought that too XD I kept thinking "shouldn't creatures of the night be able to see in the dark?" ^_^;
