Ever since kusoyaro 's mockery of that book list I've been lazily looking for one that's not based on readers' flavour of the month.

Anyone have a good one?

I spent about an hour in the bookstore and picked up Jane Eyre and Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister. >_> I'm about 100 pages into the latter ... good times.

In other news working a late shift then ( Read more... )

Well, it's kinda based on the flavor of the month, but ext_119048 October 10 2008, 07:08:59 UTC

Banned Book Week is over, but that doesn't mean you can't read anymore :P

Here's one from around 450 years ago:

Though, that one may not help very much, since it's really just a list of names. A few quick searches on Project Gutenberg didn't turn up much.

I just finished Michael Chabon's The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay. That's a pretty good one. His endings can be a bit needlessly complicated, but other parts of his books more than make up for it.

In the interest of introducing you to some good newspaper novels, William Weintraub's Why Rock the Boat? is worth picking up if you can find it. It's a bit out of print.

I just finished Gaiman's Graveyard book. It is simply fantastic and lovely and... well, Neil Gaiman is a god.
The Thursday Next series is pretty fantastic. It almost reminds me of Douglas Adams at times. It's hilarious and weird and exciting and there are dodos. And literary references- oh my. Jasper Fford is the author of that series.

I had to reread Jane Eyre for my Women's Lit class last month. It isn't terrible! :)
