across the universe

Moulin Rouge, or Titus??? Cuz isn't the director Taymor? Who, ya know, directed Titus? Which was pretty cool-looking, too? Or am I being an ill-informed movie ass? I think mostly I'm thinking of all the kiddies who are going to think it is by Luhrmann and not another awesome director.

Yup, the director is Taymor. I haven't seen Titus, which was why I was going outside of her work to find an analogy... there's a definite similarity in the elaborateness of this movie that reminds me of Moulin Rouge.

I hadn't seen Titus until last spring in my Shakespeare class. I thought it wouldn't be particularly interesting, typical screen version of a Shakespearean tragedy, but boy howdy was I wrong. Fabulous. The play is downright gruesome, so parts of the movie are too, but it was a pretty amazing adaptation.
