This is the issue with being a bit fixated on the Hollywood scene and living in Australia - half of the films nominated haven't even come out here yet.
WORD. Except I'm UK but we still have to wait forever and a day for the films to come out. Usually I would download them all in preparation for the award season but I haven't had the internet connection to do it this year.
I thought The Descendants looked pretty good from the trailers - it was one I definitely wanted to see. What's the artist like?
I really want to watch The Artist but I can't justify it without sound, so I'm going to have to find another copy. I amused myself for five minutes or so re-scoring it myself (DOG ROUTINE TO "WHO LET THE DOGS OUT", HOW NICHE AND SUBTLE OF ME) but I want to have the ~proper~ experience.
I guess my issue with The Descendants is that it looks a lot like Up In The Air. And I'm starting to have personal issues with George Clooney.
It's not all a likability contest for me, though. I think Angelina Jolie's film should have been nominated and I'm pretty sure she hasn't smiled since 2005.
I got mine off of Pirate Bay as well D:! I scoured to find a decent copy and this one guy went on the comments and trashed every single version bar one so my mind immediately lead me to trust this man and now I'm in this predicament.
WOE.
I'm glad to hear it'll meet my expectations, though.
I had half a mind back in 2010 to start putting a dollar sign in my name. Liz = Li$.
2012 me is pretty happy I don't have to justify 2010 me's decision to do that, though. It's sometimes so wise to internalize our hopes and dreams.
ALSO: Am watching Burn Notice. Is the chick in it Irish or American? Or is she negotiable depending on the seasons? I LOVE it, though. It's really funny.
She's Irish, but she drops the accent pretty fast. They have some sort of story, but really, they just realized how awkward and exhausting it would be to have her sound like a leprechaun for 5 seasons.
Oh, me too, for sure! There's no doubt the two of them are talented, and I appreciate that their mere involvement in some projects gives films exposure that they might not otherwise experience. I just think the accolades they receive can be, at times, a little overstated when I see other talented actors in the business get shafted. Then again, Hollywood has never been about giving everyone what they're due in equal measure, so I don't know where this shock is coming from.
I think I just like deluding myself that Hollywood owes me something :b.
It does, because you see actors like Oldman who has been in everyone's peripheral for a very long time only now getting Oscar recognition. I don't know, whilst I understand that Clooney and Pitt's earlier mainstream work skyrocketed them to a level where anything they do of a different pace is going to applauded, my idealistic mind wants performers who have been tackling material like that for their whole career to get some elbow room in to be recognized in front of their peers more often.
Have a lot of feelings, always rooting for the underdogs, etc.
This happens to me all the time. And usually I'll convince myself that because it's an English movie, this little bit in another language isn't going to affect anything.
BUT THERE IS ALWAYS SOME INTEGRAL PIECE OF INFORMATION DELIVERED IN ANOTHER LANGUAGE.

Ah I liked up in the air a lot - but mostly for Anna Kendrick rather than Clooney.
