Tis the season

A few weeks ago I sadly resigned myself to the fact that another guinea had been missing for days and most likely dead. They have been getting much TOO brave these days and venturing deep into the forest. Well in preparation for another large bonfire, we made a startling discovery.... she is alive in the cave like center of the woodpile AND ( Read more... )

aw, how cute is she in there?

So, the regular chicken rooster can mate with the guineas? Forgive me, for I know not the ways of the chickens...

Love that you posted the pics of the forest, too. :) I HATE mowing down all those spring wildflowers, just hate it. M will be there next week sometime to do it, though, boooo

She is pretty darn cute... even when she gets all poofy and tries to look all ferocious and scary. How quickly her tone changes when she realizes I've come with a corn goodie and NOT to bother her :)

From what I read, yes roosters can cross breed with guineas but they are genitically different enough to make the offspring sterile. Kind of like a horse, donkey, mule thing I guses? I'm pretty sure one of the three guineas is a male cuz his little red dangly waddles look different than the other too, but I haven't witnessed them mating or anything like that? Should be interesting! I should know any day now really. She's been out there about 3 weeks now and the incubation period is 21-28 days :)

I took those photos of the wildflowers remembering how much you hating cutting them down last year. WAsn't sure if you were going to make it out to see them before Mark (or Tom) cut them down. Was getting ready to ask you guys if you needed us to mow.

Ah, I thought all the guineas were ladies. :)

Thank you for the offer to mow! As long as the weather cooperates this week, Mark will be out--he's on vacation, da bum.

You know those wildflowers are what finally killed me on the place, right? The photos you snail mailed to me probably about exactly two years ago. Once I saw those yellow flowers I couldn't get them out of my head.

And I think I'm going to print this year's out and put them on my board here. Its not exactly a book of images, but its a start. :)

I think your board is an awesome idea! I feel honored that my photo is making it there, a place where you sit and look at each and every day :)
