Chapter Five

Somewhere in the Void…

“You must save him Doctor.”

The Tenth Doctor spun around to see a small boy with dark brown hair standing alongside him in the TARDIS.

“What???” He asked as he checked the spatial resonator. Nothing came up on the monitors so the boy had to be a hologram or a message.

“You must save him,” the boy said again. “The Lost Song will be taken and all will be chaos. You must help them save him before it’s too late.”

Intrigued the Doctor crouched down to look at the boy. “And just where can I find this Lost Song?” he asked holding up his sonic screwdriver to scan the image, hoping to find its source.

“When Four and Eleven meet in the age of the water bearer,” he replied.

“Could you be a bit more specific?” The Tenth Doctor asked as he scratched his cheek.

The boy huffed and rolled his eyes. “Woodstock,” he finally said. “Go save him Doctor please!” he said as a look of horror crossed his face and he disappeared.

“Blimey,” The Doctor said standing up to check the console for any trace of where the message had come from. Staring at the moving time rotor he felt a sense of urgency brush against his mind as the TARDIS prodded him to answer the boy’s plea.

“Only one way to find out I guess,” he said flipping switches and changing course for Earth.

Woodstock - 1969

“Two minutes apart,” Amy counted as River fought her way through another contraction. “What are we going to do; he should be back by now!”

“She’s doing quite well actually,” piped up Romana as she popped her head back out from beneath River’s skirt. “I’ve only attended a Mantorian birth before, but I think the child is making progress as it should.”

Amy cringed as River gripped her hand again and wished that Rory would come back.

“Who’s this person you’re waiting for?” the Fourth Doctor asked as he munched on a jelly baby. “Since you scan as part Time Lord, I am assuming he must have gone to get his TARDIS, Perhaps I could find him?”

Amy and River exchanged a look. “That might be a bad idea,” Amy finally said.

“Come, come, none of that,” he said with a grin. “Unlike other Time Lords I rather like the idea of a natural Time Lord birth,” he said popping another jelly baby in his mouth. “You won’t see that on Gallifrey, but here on Earth, anything is possible.”

“That’s all fine and good Doctor, but not helping the situation,” Romana chastised him.

“Well I suppose I could go look for this Time Lord friend of yours,” he said dusting off his trousers as he stood up. “What’s his TARDIS look like? Do you know the model perhaps?”

“It’s a Type 40, you twit!” River answered with a groan as another contraction hit.

“Well that is a co-incidence!” the Fourth Doctor said with a grin. “You see my TARDIS-“

“Yes Doctor we know,” Romana interrupted. “Perhaps until their companion returns, you could go collect your TARDIS so that we could move her somewhere a bit more comfortable?”

“Cheeky,” he replied with a frown. “But I suppose you’re right. Be right back.”

He pushed back the tent flap with flourish and strode off into the night to retrieve his vehicle.

River pulled back her shawl and sank back into Amy’s arms as the two women sighed in relief.

“It’s his isn’t it?” Romana asked now that the Doctor had gone.

“It’s our second,” River answered holding her gaze. “But it’s the Eleventh him that fathered them, and since he’s only the Fourth…”

“He can never know,” Romana finished for her. “We already saw the other TARDIS when we arrived, but I guess he hasn’t put it all together yet,” she added with a sigh. “I need to get him out of here before he does.”

As she finished speaking, the sound of the TARDIS materializing filled the tent.

“Finally!” Amy said as she helped prop River up.

But Romana held a hand out to stop her. “Something’s not right,” she said as River gathered her shawl back up to cover her face.

The door popped open and the Tenth Doctor stepped out.

“Hello!” he said stepping into the tent with a grin. “Someone call for a Doctor?”

Amy laughed and shook her head at the sheer madness of three Doctors being in the same place at once.

Rory made his way through the crowd, clutching the neck of the guitar as he went and searching the crowd for the two Time Agents and Ianto.

As he rounded the edge of the woods he saw the distinct shape of the TARDIS hidden beside a group of trees. It was covered in a makeshift bit of canvas that seemed to be slipping off the side due to the movements of a rather enthusiastic couple engrossed in each other behind it. Ignoring the steamy pants of coupling emanating from behind the TARDIS, Rory pulled the canvas aside and made his way to the door and pulled out his key.

“And just exactly what are you doing with my TARDIS?” asked a voice behind him.

A gasp sounded from the couple at the back of the TARDIS and Rory chuckled to himself before turning around to face the Doctor. But when he did, it was a version of the Doctor he had never seen before.

“Which one are you?” he asked lowering his key as he approached the man.

“I beg your pardon?” the Fourth Doctor replied not understanding the question.

“I travel with Eleven,” Rory explained. “So I am assuming you are what, Eight? Nine?”

“Four actually,” he replied with a grin, which was quickly followed by a frown. “We saw your TARDIS earlier; so there really is another me in this time stream isn’t there?” he asked.

Rory nodded. “There is,” he answered. “And unless you want a boat-load of spoilers and a paradox hanging over your head we best get at least one of you out of here.”

The sound of muffled cursing and a bang could be heard coming from behind the TARDIS and Rory and the Fourth Doctor shared a look before making their way behind it to find the source of the noise. As the two men turned the bend, guitar and sonic screwdriver at the ready, both of them nearly dropped their make-shift weapons at the sight before them.

There, in all his naked glory, was a man, who judging from his wrist strap was a Time Agent. He was crouched down alongside another man, wearing only a pair of motorcycle boots, who seemed to be covered in a golden sheen and sound asleep.

“We finished and he just collapsed,” the Time Agent said reaching down to brush back a stray lock of his hair with concern. “He said something about a song and time and then,” he gestured to where the man lay upon the ground.

“Step aside,” Rory ordered as he and the Fourth Doctor crouched beside Ianto. He checked and found a steady pulse and then listened to check that both hearts were working.

“He seems to have passed out,” Rory said as he gathered up his discarded t-shirt and used it to give his grandson a little modesty.

A moment later Ianto coughed and a small cloud of golden energy floated up from his lips.

“He’s still in his regeneration cycle?” Four asked sharply.

Rory shrugged. “I just met him today,” he replied. “So I’m not really sure.”

“Regeneration cycle?” the other man asked in confusion. “He has two hearts too. What species is he anyway?”

“One you should not be shagging young man,” Rory replied curtly.

“Young man?” he scoffed. “You’re only a few years older than me.”

“He’s my grandson,” growled Rory grabbing the guitar and placing it on his shoulder ready to swing. “And you are on thin ice, Time Agent.”

“The name is Jax,” he hastily replied. “And it was just a bit of fun. I had no idea it would hurt him.”

“Oh he’s not hurt,” The Fourth Doctor replied with a sigh. “Well, not yet anyway.”

He scanned the young Time Lord with his sonic screwdriver and checked the readings to confirm his suspicions. When the readings showed that he was right, he knew they needed to get him into the TARDIS right away.

“Doctor?” Rory prompted, worried about what had happened to Ianto.

“Not a discussion for anyone outside the family,” he replied bending down to scoop Ianto up into his arms.

“I trust you will keep this little incident to yourself,” he said staring Jax down.

Jax nodded and handed over Storm’s discarded clothes.

“Is he going to be okay?” he asked, looking at the pale features of the man who had felt so right in his arms that he was reluctant to let him go.

“He’ll be fine in about five months, give or take,” the Fourth Doctor replied as he and Rory started to walk away.

Jax, who had started dressing himself back in his clothes, stilled. He still didn’t know what Storm’s species was. It was a long shot, but there were some races that could get pregnant from a single encounter. Could he have been one of them?

Before he could ask, a wheezing sound and a gust of wind nearly blew him over and both the shed and the two men were gone.
