I has a sad

Been kind of bummed since last night, when I learned that City of Heroes will be shut down at the end of November. Now, I know it's "just a game" but still, it was -my- game, one I spent countless hours on, talking to people, playing, enjoying the content and most of all, the community. 5 years of my life were invested in this game, it was my ( Read more... )

Wow, that's a surprise. Sorry to hear they are dropping it. Any idea what you might do in place of that one?

Not sure yet. The other two super hero type MMOs are meh, from what I hear, and I've been spoiled with CoH. Great customization options, a rich and evolving lore, devs that actually listen to and interact with players...it'll be hard to find something like that again.

What pissed me off the most is how much money we as players put into this game for extra stuff (bonus packs, ect) and the years we paid for subscriptions. We get nothing in return when the close it down. All for nowt.

*nods* I recently bought more character slots too. I'd been planning to pick up street fighting and beast mastery power pools, but now..well..so much for that.

I did sign the petition too. I doubt it will have much impact, but one must try, after all.

It's a shame US and EU can't play together :( Got two EU accounts now, couldn't afford a third account. Only thing that bothers me, you lot play over there and I play over here.

Even WoW ain't perfect in that regard. :)

Seven 85's, tons of gold, all professions maxed out. -.- God I play the game too much and fear for when even WoW shuts down.

Various game companies have been acting like FOX lately as in if a MMO doesn't make as much money as World of Warcraft then it needs to be cancelled. They forget the following things though:

1. WoW has been about for a long, long time now. Eight years.
2. Even WoW didn't make as much money as they did in the beginning than they did now.
3. You can't expect a MMO to be as successful unless you set things right and let it mature over the years.

Most game companies expect to put in as little investment as possible and expect a massive income in return and if not then it has to be cancelled. Been like that for many MMO's as of late.

And seems it's the same for NCSoft as well, so it doesn't make as much money as Blizzards but it still makes money so why just stop it?

*nods* CoH is about 8 years old too.

It seems NCSoft lost money with Aion and Guild Wars (their games) but instead of dropping one of them, they blamed the older acquisition, even though it was still making money, has a loyal playerbase and is...was...continuing to grow and improve.
