Room 510: Monday evening

Jul 09, 2007 20:55

Her first back week at Fandom had been busy, but that was expected. River had returned early Monday morning and after avoiding staking she and Buffy had caught up on the summer so far. Berthold had said hello too. Later she'd walked down to the beach, enjoying swimming in the sea - one of the things she'd really missed on Serenity. She'd met a new girl named Charlie and a frog. The same day there had been the welcome picnic, with lots of new and old people. She'd met Claire who might be interested in cheerleading, Lana who had told her about Fandom while River had been away, A Jedi-in-training called Qui-Gon, A younger version of Inara, a happy Bridge, a hairy individual with a fondsness for onion dip, Gavin who also liked flying, Ronan who was a wizard and could talk telepathically with her, Johnny who was shirtless, and Dawn with whom she had discussed spaceships and cookies.

The next day had been equally busy. She'd had fruit for breakfast in the common room, and Cedric had showed up and made the fruit levitate. Molly had said hello too and talked about flag football, demon hunting and her new boyfriend. There had also been a new girl called Eve. She had then joined some others on a day trip to DC to meet up with Parker for lunch.

The fourth of July was appearantly a big holiday with required a barbecue on the beach. Buffy had been there too, an new student named A.J. was also interested in art, Qui-Gon had been there and they had looked at the waves, Cedric had been there and had avoided sunburn and sprayed her with water magically, Evie had liked the food too, there had been boogie boards and a new boy called Andrew had taken her for a shark. Oh, and there had been fireworks.

The next day she'd gone to the junk yard to make sure the Acorn was still there. It was. The frog stopped by to say hello again, and a boy named John who also really appreciated flying. Then she had gone to the gym and sparred with Johnny, until he cheated and burst into flame.

River would have preferred to forget Friday. It hadn't been good. She'd gone to the shooting range to practise, and Jack had showed up, completely unexpected. He'd been acting strange and she didn't want to think about it. She'd said hello to a girl named Jo, but hadn't been in the mood for talking. That same day Buffy had left for Sunnydale, but not before trying to comfort River by suggesting Jack might be a vampire and offer to stake him.

The next day she'd gone to the beach again in the morning, the best way to chase away things she didn't want to think about. Ronan had stopped by, they had talked, and he'd done a magic circle around them, a protected place against her mind reading abilities. After that she'd wandered into town and managed to get a job at the Arms Hotel, working Fridays as a desk clerk and when needed as a restaurant host. She was pleased about that. She'd stopped by the second floor common room on her way back and talked to Qui-Gon, Abigail and Andrew.

On Sunday she'd been cheering at the flag football game.

This afternoon she'd stopped by the fourth floor common room and got her nails painted by Claire, discussed pies with Seely, talked spiciness with Isabel, mind reading and religion with Karal and said hello to Irulan.

Now she was sitting on her bed writing a letter to Simon. Berthold had been given a healthy dinner consisting of oatmeal which he'd complained about. River wasn't taking any risks however, with Buffy gone there wasn't much room for clothes going missing before River's wardrobe would be empty.
