Parker had been to London, New York, Tokyo and Rio; this city bypassed them all for busyness and brightness. "Wow." She managed (just barely) not to gape at things, but the glee was shining through as she looked around, looked up, and kept an eye out for intergalactic muggers.

Jack quickened his stride until he was next to Parker, and tried not to hover. It was her first time off planet, and he was concerned. Hence the Not-Hovering. "Having fun?"

"Definitely!" Parker spun toward him, smile bright, and gestured to the flying cars, the neon lights, the musician on a corner. "God, I love big cities. And this place is *new*. To me, anyway."

This wasn't anything new to him, but he was totally charmed, watching Parker, even if her reaction did make him wince internally and start keeping a sharper eye out. "This isn't even the biggest I've ever been in. There's whole planets that are nothing but one big city."

"That might be overkill," Parker said, after some consideration. "But still. This is amazing." She grinned, and said, "Did you bring anything to trade for cash? Or am I the only one who thought of that?" Her eyes narrowed as she saw a jeweler's ahead.

"Thought of it, but I didn't have anything appropriate, so I'm glad you did." He fell into step, just behind and to the side of her, attention focussed outwards. "I did bring a pair of very tight leather pants and a shirt that's mostly non-existent, just in case. So I didn't come unprepared."

Parker stopped and closed her eyes, shaking her head. "Jack...."

Jack just about ran into her when she stopped. "What?"

Parker tried to think of a tactful way to put it, and then just gave up after five seconds. "Solicitation may be legal here, but please don't unless our lives are in danger. Okay?"

Jack snickered. "I was thinking more along the lines of distraction than sales. You know, I get whoever's attention, Sam whacks them over the head and we've got whatever we needed." He snickered again as he asked, "You really think I'd risk the wrath of Sam by putting myself on the market when she was around?"

"Valid point," Parker said, then rolled her eyes. "Although I like the whacking-over-head scenario. And I *was* discussing money at the time you brought the leather pants into the conversation, you goofball." She stopped at the jewelery store, pricing the pieces in the window with a practiced eye.

You have your assets, I have mine," he said, leaning over her shoulder.

"Mine can be concealed, though. At least better than yours," Parker said, elbowing him in the side. "Let's go in. I have to exchange a few things so we can actually buy dinner."

The shopkeeper was more than happy to haggle over the (very fine) stones the young lady brought in; and after about forty minutes negotiation, he handed over a nice hefty wad of cash for about a quarter of the stones. Parker smiled and tucked the money in the top of her boots, and headed out the door humming.

Jack smirked, but followed her into the store, standing in the background and playing dumb while Parker got the better of the shopkeeper.

"I think I'll stop worrying about you," he said as they stepped back into the street. "That was impressive."

"The markets of Tokyo and Hawa'ii are a good training ground, as well as Rome," Parker said, smiling wide. "And you were worried? Whatever for?"

"A bit. Maybe. Sort of," he admitted, avoiding looking at her by studying the passing crowds. "Because you've never been off planet before, Parker. It can be different out here."
