That was weird... I sent a comment without logging in and it said it was posted, so I logged in to send a comment saying that the last post was mine... only to find out that the first post wasn't actually sent. So I resent the original post... Sorry for the confusion!

Here's the thing. When has JK Rowling ever attacked the fantasy genre and/or fanbase? She hasn't. She's been very respectable about the whole thing. You should read some of the stuff about her on jkrowling.com and mugglenet.com.

Pratchett has a point. Potter helped push forth the trend that made the occult mainstream in an era which was more open to accept this style of writing. Pratchett's books were even more criticized than Rowling's books for being as fantasy-based as they were. He believes he has a right to be bitter. If his books had come out primarily in this era, he may have achieved the fame that Rowling did. Unfortunately, bad timing gave him the shaft. Sad, but true.

Let him call her out. Pratchett is a fantastic writer. His criticisms are not without their base.

I don't think Pratchett has any basis at all for his "criticisms". Sure he starts out saying basically "Because of you and what you wrote, I've got a standard to meet now." Okay, so if he's pissed off he has to work hard. Then in the end he flat out calls her an idiot.

I really think this guy's jealous and trying to get some attention among all the big Potter media from the 6th book. It's like a kid being forgotten on their older sisters big day or something. Personally I think it's pathetic he couldn't be mature about it. He's a grown man for Pete's sake.

To me, it looks like he starts out by saying that Rowlings success in the fantasy genre was made possible by writers such as himself. And by saying she thought her book wasn't fantasy, he believed she slighted writers such as himself who have worked very hard to help make the genre what it is today. I can see how Pratchett could take offense to what Rowling thought was a harmless comment. Pratchett called her out on it. He believed the genre was attacked when she made light of her book not being fantasy when he thought it was quite obvious that Potter was fantasy. That, I believe, is his basis ( ... )
