Correction worthy of its own post

Back on this post, I talked about a Bodies exhibit that sounded interesting, and similar to the BodyWorlds exhibit I'd seen previously. It was brought to my attention that this exhibit has serious issues with the sourcing of their cadavers. It's troubling enough that there is no question at this point; I absolutely will not attend or support this ( Read more... )

This topic came up in conversation here today (not because of your post), and cattitude informed me that the person who runs/organizes BodyWorlds accepts only donations from within Germany, where he lives, because it would be too difficult to get permission to import the body of, say, an American who had wanted to donate their body to that rather than medical research. He also said that the process/paperwork is fairly lengthy, which makes sense; it's nothing like organ donation, where the next of kin can make the decision just after the person dies.

*nod* That makes a lot of sense, and is in line with everything I've ever learned about the process. And I feel rather stupid for assuming that any show like that would have similarly high ethical standards. Learned something new today. :/

Let's remember that China is a country that harvests transplant organs from executed prisoners.

Exactly. It's also not a country that I trust not to execute more swiftly when their political prisoners can turn them a profit as salable cadavers.
