bec76 caught a couple of good shots of Shroom asleep on my head (her normal position, especially during winter). I'm very pleased. This is my cranky old lady cat; she's about 15 or so, and sleeping with her reminds me frequently of one of the most awe-inspiring aspects of interspecies friendship -- the trust. That we (and they) are capable of

We don't even have rain gutters on our house, yet. I'm very very interested in rain barrels.
And I'm glad you had a good birthday. =)

Whenever I'm looking for something these days I'll look at Craigslist, Ebay, Amazon, and wherever those lead me (in terms of brand names and exact terminology to google). I check Amazon for individual product reviews, and then can often do more specific searches once I've narrowed down some of the best and worst.

These machines are mostly designed for 14" or smaller arms as are most standard blood pressure cuffs. Unlike the person, they don't know to stop when it's causing pain. I refuse to use them. Tell the doctor's office to use an over-sized cuff and do it personally. For me, that's a roughly 14/8 change in my BP on a regular basis when I forced them to do that.
I'm so mad at our politicians, cancer groups, and doctors for refusing that research. I've been saying for years that the US is out of step with reality on that one and these guidelines are much closer to reality than the previous hysteria induced ones which have spawned millions of pink products that do NOTHING to actually combat the problems.

*nod* When they're doing it manually, I always ask for the larger cuff. Didn't seem to be an option with these new devices, and they're _all over_ the clinic. After this one errored out three times, it finally came back with with a ridiculously high reading for me (152/97), way higher than even my non-medicated BP ever normally gets (140/85 is high end for me). Medicated I'm around 120/80. I hadn't taken my pill yet that morning, but still!

This makes me horrendously sad. My journal's titled "The Girl With Kaleidoscope Eyes" for a reason.

At one of the Nerd Houses at the local Polytech they use to keep a quart jar of it under the kitchen sink for years making more about every 2 years not making money off it just for those who wanted to trip.
The idea that its illegal gets me. On the other hand they are finding its very useful in treating PTSD and being perscribed for it.

Mind Cleaner is a good description. I usually envision my brain as a big cluttered farmhouse, and tripping me is a wild 10-year-old whirlwinding through the rooms, exploring all the drawers, being fascinated by all the bits and bobs and sparkly bits and old letters to be had, and making a fine mess. Sober me is the cheerful older housekeeper following along after, enjoying the rediscovery of all those old items while packing them all away tidily again.
