Yup, more. (also, as a note, after this I will be following only my nearest and dearest for the next five days at least, and probably longer -- I'll really only have access via b'berry until Sunday night, though)

Bart described it as a "piece of shit racist gem" -- I couldn't agree more. Way to make your side look like moronic assholes without ( Read more... )

That c-section story really, really pisses me off. There are other comments in that blog post saying that the woman had her baby taken away, not because she refused a c-section, but because she was mentally ill. Of course, she's behaving erratically because she's got the crazy, not because she's in labour, and other such BS.

Whatever argument you use, it's stupid, paternalistic, and somewhat frightening. My mom stopped taking anti-depressants when she was pregnant with my brother. Would someone have tried to take him away if she had also refused to deliver by c-section?

This is an issue that's been getting progressively scarier and scarier. Women being incarcerated because of drug use during pregnancy because it endangers the fetus, women having c-sections against their will, attempts to define all reproductively aged women as "pre-pregnant" in medical care, etc. Way to push that whole "you are a walking womb" idea that makes Handmaid's Tale such a utopian view of the future. *eyeroll*

I've been been complaining about the police response since day 1 for the simple reason that it was private property and it is not possible to make a public disturbance while on private propertly. The law was poorly interpreted and Gates was right to bitch. The blue wall is wrong here.

*fumes over C-section story* SOOOOO glad we're childfree.

Definately agree with Mahar. I've toyed many times with the idea of starting my own not-for-profit healthcare company that actually did what it was supposed to do...take care of the sick.

Honestly, part of what's made me more and more certain over the years that I don't want children is that I don't want the kind of scrutiny and judgment and legal paternalism that are involved in being a mother. I don't trust our culture, and not having children makes me feel a lot safer.
