So, in an attempt to post some of the stuff floating around my head, this is likely to be a bit scattershot, as I add bits of stuff here and there between calls. That's not at all fair to Bill Nye. I dislike Alton Brown and very much like Bill Nye.

Nye never comes off so smug and he doesn't put way too much salt in science.

I wanted to like Palimpset but never started it because the first sentence of one of her other books was so poorly thought-out that I couldn't read any further. It, and Palimpset, went right back to the library, unread.

That was a pretty glaring oversight, but both are quite worth reading, especially the Orphan's Tales (they start slow, and bit too reminiscent of Andrew Lang for my taste, but pick up within about 30 pages). The Orphan's Tales duology was my favorite fiction of last year.
