This post brought to you by the fact that spike just managed to score me some of the awesome and delicious Belizean habanero sauce that I fell in love with when dilletante and I went to "Scotland" last year.
More than just a little pepper-based spice is extremely painful for me. I will endure this pain for one or two dishes, most notably Suan La Chow Show at Mary's, just because it is THAT good.
I am fine with large quantities of wasabi or black pepper.
I like subtlety, variety, and complexity in flavors, but! I also like a big flavor WHAM every once in a while, especially if it plays well with the other flavors. I'm also a social spicy-food-eater. I eat a lot more of it when hanging out with people who really enjoy it.
I want "YES ZOMG love the hot! More = better!" to be two separate entries. I *adore* it, but more isn't always better. Therefore, I also adore your checkboxes.
I'm usually against checkboxes, but your comment is exactly why I put them in this time!
When I do eat spicy food, I tend to enjoy it at a much spicier level than most people -- BUT, while in general more is better, it is not ALWAYS better, hence the checkboxes for elaboration.
My actual feeling: for food that is supposed to be spicy, I like it very spicy, but also tasty, and if they're in a race, tasty wins over spicy. Plus, sometimes I'm not in the mood.
That said, I am the sort of person who lights up when given a case of delicious carrot-habanero sauce.
Sometimes I want the endorphins that I get from the mega spice, and in that case, it's ZOMG MORE BETTER. However, even then it's hard for me to get a good high these days, since my tolerance keeps inching up.
