...futile.

[Kain glares harshly into the screen.]

What use were our actions in the cycles of war, if that threat was destined to be reborn again? Will defeating Chaos now make any difference? Was it all in vain?

[If there's anything else that can inspire confidence in the warrior, it seems, it's hearing the same doubts that had been plaguing him echoed by someone else.]

No. We will put and end to this- we must. We cannot stand by as Garland- Chaos- continues this destruction.

There must be a way, even if hope seems lost.

Yet how? How can we ensure that he's permanently gone?

Through defeating the fiends, and stopping his spells. Matoya told us of what we could do, and I trust her words.

[Well, her words were proved right in the past...]

...and how do we know that a new cycle won't start up again, given time?

We defeated Chaos once before. We can do it again.

Defeat him again, only for him to rise up once more?

What if he doesn't come back?

Do you believe we'll see a final end to him at last? That this time will be any different than previous?

It's only futile if we believe it to be so. The option is to lay down our weapons, and allow Chaos to destroy all we've fought for... or to keep fighting. For everyone's sakes, not just our own.

We've come too far to give up now, Kain.

I've said nothing about ceasing the battle. I only question whether any victory we might achieve... is even a true victory at all.

Yet what other choice do we but to continue to try? However long it takes, there will be a way. We've merely yet to find it.

No choice at all... Then we'll do what we must in seeking it.

[Reis appears positively elated (and maybe just a little bit relieved) to see Kain again.]

You are returned?

[Thrilled as she is, the rest of the message concerns her. However, that can wait until they can speak in person.]

I am.

I'm- I've... I've missed you.

[It takes Kain a while to get that much out, he's still not very used to openly expressing how he feels.]

And I you.

[It's terribly endearing of him, in her mind.]

When shall you be in Troia? Or shall I come to where you are?

I'm on my way to you now... Expect me soon.

[He's so angry about Garland and Chaos and their endless cycle, but, all he really just wants despite that... is to see her.]

Yet how can we chance doing nothing.

I said no word about doing nothing, that's a fools' path if ever there were one.

Yet I question if any victory will only be a false hope, with the threat waiting to be reborn, the cycle begun again...
