[Steiner has been thinking about this for some time. Garnet is with child and becoming more obviously pregnant by the day. Zidane still isn't here. That kind of... makes Steiner the default father. At least in his head. He will be responsible for the infant prince or princess just as he has been for Garnet ( Read more... )

[Sorry Steiner, but Raine has her hands full with her own bunchkin to manage typing, so you get a voice replay, with plenty of gurgles and coos for sound effects in the background.]

Oh the poor dear. That's so hard. I'd be happy to help if I can.

Ah... Ma'am. Thank you! You have a child?

[Trying so hard to sound professional but babies are so beyond him, sob.]

Four actually.

[Hmm. That voice sounds familiar. Where has she heard it?]

Two are adults now.

Four? Huh... Congratulations!

[It's... an achievement?]

Then you must be very well-versed in parenting. May I ask... what - what role do you expect the father - or, or male parental figure, not necessarily father - to play?

[Reading this is a double-edged sword for Ricard. On the one hand, he likes to talk about his son, but on the other, he's reminded again that Kain isn't here any more.

Still, he answers.]

Babies need a lot of attention. Cause a lot of lost sleep, too.

I can't really say that much about it, though. It's been years, and I wasn't really around much when my son was that young.

Indeed. I must think of employing child minders but I am not certain how much time my friend would prefer to spend with the infant herself.

Then ask her. You won't be much help until you learn.

You are right. It is simply a difficult subject to bring up...

[Beatrix has eyed this for quite some time, unsure of what to say. However...]

Always the helpful sort.

Try not to cause any trouble.

[Until very recently, Ashe herself had been faced with the prospect of raising her own son alone. As such, she feels it's only right to respond - if she can offer something by way of advice, she will try.]

What do you wish to know?

Lady Ashe, it is a privilege! I wish to know as much as possible so that I can aid my friend during this difficult time. But... I do not really know what is normal for an infant. How do you know when they wish to be fed or changed? How much sleep do they need? What arrangements must you make for their safety?

[HOW DO YOU BRING UP BABY. Otherwise Steiner is totally going to think that every crying tantrum is an emergency.]

[Deciding this may take some time, and patience, Ashe sets aside the paper in her hands and lends her full attention. Of course, she only has Shain to refer to - children had played little part in her life until she became a mother herself.]

When he was newly born, my son spent a great deal of the day in sleep, waking only to receive milk. In contrast, he was awake far more during the night. Several months passed before his routine altered fully and his sleep pattern regulated.

Crying is their only means of communication; often you must try a number of solutions before the correct one is found. Hunger and changing are the most frequent. As for safety... Ensure comfort. When they begin to crawl, the location must be free of any dangers.

[You are a saviour, Ashe, he will be forever grateful.]

I see! Thank you! It seems best to keep tabs on the infant at all times then.

[Normally Tidus doesn't want anything to do with Steiner, but for some reason lately the mischievous bug has just bitten him hard. Soooo...]

Don't throw it around or try to kick it, or whatever you like to do.

You're not really the most careful person around, you know.

[Dear god Tidus you're going to deserve the smack for this one.]

I would take the utmost care when protecting an infant!

[If he could smack you through the phone, HE WOULD.]
