Yeah... I think the pics journal is a good idea if I posted a TON of pics... but I don't really, so I'll just lj-cut... those who don't want to see them only have to deal with a three-line post...
I likes it... though I still don't know if the green and brownish building in front of me is an office building or a residential... could it be both? I guess... the bottom part looks like offices... then the top part looks like apartments... and there's a dep and some stores under it... could you imagine that? You could work, sleep, and shop in the same building!
I had a dep and a mattress store at the bottom of my building in Montreal... it was good to know that if something really odd happened, I was 50 feet away from a new mattress. ;)
I got... a travel company and language education place. Oh vell. I can't complain cause I am right in the cheap-eats part of downtown... a meal for $2 is not uncommon!
It looks beautiful there! I'd love to visit Montreal sometime, I've been to Toronto, but from your pictures Montreal looks much more historic and worldly.
It's got both... when you're in Old Montreal, you feel like you're in Europe... meanwhile, downtown feels like New York City... it's definitely nice to have both styles in one city.
Oh man...I REALLY want to go to McGill...so many good points about that school, and now that I know what its surroundings look like (from a non-brochure point of view)...DEFINITELY want to go.
Well, McGill's area is a bit more in the downtown area, which is walking distance from Old Montreal, but actual neighborhood looks more like New York City. I love how you walk ten blocks from an area that feels like NYC to an area that feels like Paris.
It's a notable comparison, except Montreal's downtown is much, much, MUCH more compact. You can walk from one end of downtown to another in 20-25 minutes. Not saying there's not much there, just that it's all jammed together.
I just walked through McGill... yes... at 6:41 AM... don't ask... or do ask, it was a long and fun night :)
