I've lived in my apartment for three years and been through two different roommates. The girl who I lived with last year had this odd knack of walking in my bedroom during games, and whenever she'd do that, within 30 seconds, it seemed like the Flyers would get scored against. Creepy, eh? I hated when she was home during games. She was SUCH bad luck, but refused to believe so.
During the triple OT Flyers-Leafs game last year, she came home during first OT (I think) with no clue of what was going on. She opened the door to my room and I flipped out, literally bit her head off, all "WHAT ARE YOU DOING? GET THE HELL OUT OF MY ROOM!" I was NOT about to have the Flyers lose because of her. She got really mad and insulted and was like "It's not very polite to tell people they're bad luck!" As if I cared. We didn't talk for like three days... She doesn't live with me anymore.
Yeah, it does suck being told you're bad luck tho... I went to one Devils game late in the season this year with a guy who had a weekend plan... they had an amazing record on the weekends, like almost undefeated, but they lost... so he keeps blaming me! We go out for drinks after the game, blames me... at a dinner party, blames me... and tells EVERYONE that I caused the Devils to lose... I didn't drive 12 hours to be a bad luck charm!
AH, but see, you care. She would actually say things like "I hope the Flyers lose in the first round so I don't have to deal with you being crazy any longer than I have to." Like I said, she doesn't live with me anymore!
Yeah, good thing. I always had an understanding roommate. He sucked for a lot of things but he understood my hockey obsession. If we had Center Ice, I'm sure we would have watched every Devils game. We used to drive to Arlington to catch Devils games at Mister Days (ever been there? nice bar, every game you could ever hope for, but expensive as hell) just cause they had Center Ice. And he would always cover for me at the Caps when the Devils were in town and I wanted to sit, not work.
He was probably the only one who understood my obsession... I listen to every game on game radio... for the Sabres, too, cause I love Rick Jeanneret...
That's what I meant from "Even though Ithaca is in New York, there are a fair amount of Devils fans there, especially with the two colleges in town."
New Jersey has arguably the best education, overall, nation-wide, but there's this myth that you have to go out-of-state for college. So you have all these ridiculously qualified students itching to go to schools in surrounding state.

Everyone who attends either Cornell or Ithaca College is from Jersey.
Or at least it seems like that to me.
