I had the same reaction - although much less eloquent - to Harper's generalization about "the arts". It just goes to show what a troglodyte he is. He thinks he will score points by pandering to the mindset that it means something hoity-toity, boring and pretentious.

I want to see Margie Gillis punch him in his smug face. Then Dennis Lee can step on his neck while Brian Jungen plucks his eyelashes with a pair of rusty pliers. My life and the lives of many other people have been so touched, delighted and inspired by these Canadian artists.

The whole thing makes me want to spit.
