bulk food?

are there any stores in montreal where i can buy dry cooking ingredients that aren't packaged?

i'm thinking something along the lines of bulk barn in ontario. they have spices and pasta and gummy bears in bins, you scoop some in to a bag, and it's cheaper than buying an actual package.

Sunsource on Sherbrooke St. in Westmount (Sadly the Mile End location just closed) has some cooking ingredients in addition to really great dried fruit and nuts (http://www.sunsource.ca/store/)

I also second the store at the Atwater Market that someone else mentioned.

I remember a long time ago (well, I haven't been there in a few years) there was a store in the Faubourg St. Catherine that had bulk foods, but I only remember the chocolates and dried fruit, but they probably had baking ingredients as well.

It's not the south shore at all, but there's the Branche D'olivier on Wellington and Verdun that sells a variety of nuts, flours, beans, pulses, rices and grains in bulk at better prices than I remember at Ontarian Bulk Barns. They've also got a great variety of herbs and spices.

This is in DDO, and I totally know that if you've never been out there, it's distressingly far. BUT! I have a job (one day per week) out there and the travel time might be worth it for this! There's a store right by where I work called Best Nuts (best name ever!!) and their bulk stuff is fabulous! Especially their nuts, but I've bought rice, pasta, spices, etc. there, too, and it's always been very good quality! To get there, all you have to do is this

Many natural-food stores will have beans, lentils, rice, flour, etc., available in bulk. Probably not the cheapest, since they tend to be organic, but it's still only a few dollars for, say, a big bag of lentils. A Votre Santé near Vendome metro in NDG is one example of such a place.
