Happy Monday, everyone! Basically I'm writing a paper for my university back in London on the changing face of the Plateau in the last 50/60 years, looking at its process of 'gentrification'. I've got some great books from the UQàM library and found some online resources, but do any of you have any better leads? For example, is there a resource ( Read more... )

As far as the Plateau goes, it goes, it should be RE-gentrification

It was the place to be for the francophone bourgeoisie at the turn of the century before they moved on to Outremont.

I realize it may not be the best reference for a uni paper... but there may be other sources online...

The language/religion/ethinicity etc... should all be available on statistics canada. Their website is some effing mess, but if you can at least get the full census reports, then you'd have at least a big general picture.

The Anglophone rights group, The Quebec Community Groups Network (QCGN) should have some info http://www.qcgn.ca/

Also check out YES Montreal http://www.qcgn.ca/

I doubt people will give up the identities of any graffiti artists they know, but if you walk around the Plateau, there are plenty of businesses who have had an outside wall covered with a mural and the artist has included a phone number or email address. I can think of several around Duluth/St-Laurent, so it might be worthwhile to stroll around there.
