I can't offer any advice about the packages but i can say that we *loved* our experience with Communauto and the only reason we aren't still with them is that we actually needed a car of our own.

There's been some recent news about a partnership with Nissan (I think) to add electric cars. I didn't read the story but it was up on the Gazette website.

For starters, I love Communauto! I use it a few times a month and have been able to continue to survive in Western NDG with no car.

I have the C plan, since I only use it every couple weeks at most. I've been meaning to crunch the numbers, though, as I suspect I might be coming up on the point at which it makes sense to switch to B.

For long distance, it doesn't matter what plan you're on--the rates are the same. However, the vast majority of the time it's cheaper to go with a rental service like Discount, especially if you have a credit card that includes car-rental insurance (Gold/Platinum cards, etc.). But there's no substitute for Communauto when it comes to short trips, even out to the West Island. It's also really convenient--book a car online, a miniscule amount of paperwork in the car, and you're off.

take the cheapest one, and for trips longer than 40 kilometers, use normal auto rentals

I've got the duo and love it. Don't use it as often as expected but don't see that I'm missing out what with haveing an automatically recharged bus pass every month. And I've had no problems to date.

I'm going to be the negative nelly. I had the package Duo Auto + Bus to get the monthly transit passes. I don't know if this one still exists ( ... )

Wow! what an awful experience. That's really too bad!! Overall we've found Communauto very helpful, although if you're going outside the city it's definitely far too expensive.

I think my membership experience was the exception, not the rule. I was a member for about a year, then gave up. It was when they expanded rapidly a few years ago.
