Opthamologist?

Jul 28, 2010 22:03

I have some kind of eye infection and badly need to see an opthamologist asap; my optometrist is on vacation, so I can't ask her for a referral (I'm sure the office can suggest someone actually, but it's too hard for me to get out to the West Island), so how does this work? Can I just call up an opthamology office and book an emergency appointment ( Read more... )

My BF just went to see an ophthalmologist and it took him 4 months on the wait list to get the appointment AND he had a referral from his optometrist. So I would say just go to the clinic. I'm sure regular doctors can treat eye infections or they will refer you someone who can.

I don't think specialists take you without a referral. Or you can just go to a different optometrist for an emergency appointment.

I have, but because they're based in the West, the specialists they know are also based there :)

I was just referred to an ophthalmologist at Royal Victoria Hospital (they have an eye clinic there). My appt. is not until September 30th, so that gives you an idea of the wait. You can try calling them to see if they take emergency appointments. (514)843-1613.

Good luck!

For an eye infection I would just go to my regular doctor (GP) or a regular walk in clinic. It probably just needs some antibiotic eye drops. If it is more serious, the doctor will know and refer you.

This. And you can also try some Polysporin for the eyes first (the ointment, not the drops)

This. Don't mess around with infections, especially in your eyes. I had the same situation and I went to a walk in clinic a.s.a.p. They'll give you drops and a referral.

There are some great optometrists and opthamologists at the Drummond Medical Centre. I have no idea if they would be able to take you right away, but here's the # 514-842-5249 or e-mail at vision@yeaxdrummond.com. The address is 1414 Drummond, suite 322, between Ste Catherine and de Maisonneuve, almost directly across the street from the BMO.

Good luck!
