UPS will let you use your own packaging and pick things up at your house, though it's not a moving service per se. I think their website will give you an estimate based on size/weight, and how far it's going... I moved a handful of packages from Vancouver to Montreal that way, including a bike, and it was fine.

I'd recommend ABFS/UPack. I used them back in 2002 to move from Montreal to Dallas, and have also heard of others use the same service. You only pay for the amount of the trailer that you use, so if you pack it efficiently and vertically, you can cram a whole lot in a little space.

I guess going from Alaska isn't part of their normal procedure; they just quoted us at $3,800! Thanks, though!

Been there, done that - and I had no problem shipping via Amtrak.

Unfortunately, there is no trainline connecting Alaska to anywhere else

Sorry, after I posted, I wondered about that... but if you can ship to the lower 48 or Vancouver, there are trains across Canada... and rail freight is cheap... just saying.

3000 doesn't sound excessive to me. Vancouver is almost 5 hours away by plane which means it must be close/over 4500 km away. That plus the distance to anchorage/alaska... that's a lot! And considering it costs like 60 bucks an hour to move to laval...

If you're not too attached to those things, the cheapest would be to sell there and buy here
