For as long as 6 months, the cheapest would probably be to find someone who would sublet / a 6 months lease.

i don't know if it still exists, but i know this apartment building above the dollar store at ontario and beaudry had 1.5 appartments for rent by the month many years ago. unfortunately i don't know anyone who still lives there or have the contact info. the area wasn't so ggreat, but the apartments inside were being renovated at the time.
