I`ve signed applications before and didn`t take the appartment. It`s not a problem unless the person paid for the credit check, but if they're smart they'd ask you before doing it anyways. I've never heard of having to commit to take it....

Nope. Applications are just like try outs. You don't owe anything.

i know with Boardwalk apartments you make this commitment. when me and my fiance were looking for an apartment we went to fill out an application for a Boardwalk apartment and they asked for a $120 deposit... then said that if we got accepted we would HAVE to take the apartment and if we weren't accepted we wouldn't get the deposit back. obviously we turned right around and left because we were not comfortable with that and the apartment was kind of shitty anyways. we just NEEDED a place and weren't sure if we'd be accepted for the other place we wanted.

according to the regie, absolutely not, and law trumps any landlord's policy.

this is interesting, because when I was hunting for my first apartment the McGill off-campus housing office told us that this was true, and warned us about not filling out more than one application. So I guess it's not law just common practice, and thus potentially a bitch to deal with after the fact??

yeah. basically. They cannot make you take an apartment for filling out an application, but that said, it is a major common courtesy to not fill one out unless you are serious ( ... )

If filling an application means there will be a credit check - i would recommand you not to do it because i heard every time you do a credit check it lowers your credit score.
