Hi, I was just wondering how these things worked, I visited the tam tams for the first time two weeks ago and saw this, it looks really really neat! I heard there's a guy that loans you some equipment, in case you don't have your own ( Read more... )

From personal experience, you just jump right into the fray. Of course no harmful weapons are allowed but you just slash and mock-die for as many rounds as you like! Unless they've appended rules since the last time I've gone.

It's not too difficult to make your own equipment if you want. Essentially all you'd need is foam, copious amounts of duct tape, wood and a good imagination. :D

There is definitely a guy up there who has a huge mess of equipment, but really, everyone's pretty nice about loaning stuff. People always just come up to me and ask if they can borrow a sword from the pile I always seem to end up guarding, and it's fine ( ... )

I'm actually a Page. ;)

Mostly I lie about and read. My boyfriend runs about in a red wool tunic (he made it himself! awww) or sometimes plate armor. I actually agreed to date him for the first time, several years ago, because he let slip that he did this. Prior to that, I had definitely said, out loud in the presence of witnesses, "I *will* date one of those medieval nerd foam sword guys."

That is AWESOME. :D
It's also really sexy to meet a grown man who isn't snotty and all "OMG THAT'S NERDY PEOPLE WILL THINK I'M A GEEK OMG" and just knows how to have fun. Not to mention most of the people who do that stuff tend to be in tip-top shape and have the yummy bodies to prove it. ;) I can imagine that all that running around and mock-fighting is awesome exercise! ;)

Excuse my not knowing ANY of these terms, but what's a Page? ^^;
