Hey..
I was wondering something.. Ive been living here since 1999.. (Moved here from a tiny town near Trois-Rivieres) and, I know Montreal quite a lot now.. but, I still wonder something..

Why is the area near McGill called "The Ghetto"?

And,
Also..
Where can I go for real, good Fish and Chips?
(Not the highliner boxed version they sell in

restos: comfort food, stuff about montreal, boroughs: mcgill ghetto

"Ghetto" was originally a term for a section of a city where most of the residents belong to a particular group, usually for socioeconomic reasons -- in the case of the area around McGill, university students. (Chinatowns, Little Italies, and similar can also sometimes be considered as ghettos.)

Obviously, the associations with the word have changed a bit. :P

Mommy's is the best! But any Irish Pubs in Downtown Montreal do have nice Fish & Chips (like O'Reillys, Irish Embassy).
