James hadn't brought along too much, either. Just his clothes, his toiletries, his hairdryer and a few other things. Everything else was back in New York. He'd more or less done the same thing he'd done when he left Princeton, and that was leave behind everything that reminded him of his mistakes.
"How much, exactly, is this setting us back?" James asked as they both approached the entrance doors, James lugging all of Greg's things as well as his own.

"Don't worry about it. I'm footing the bill." For now, at least.
He only had the one bag, that James was carrying. He could ahve carried it himself, though it was awkward for him. He could ahve managed. But it was so much the better for him to make James carry it.

"You don't remember?" James echoed, stopping by the door. He juggled the bags in his hands with a mild scowl on his face before he lifted a hand to the door and pulled it open for Greg.
Did James mind carrying all the bags and opening the door for Greg? No. Because as much as things weren't really laid to rest between them, James was willing to pretend. If he pretended, then maybe everything would be laid to rest between them without ever having to deal with it.

Whatever happened in Princeton, whatever happened in New York, he'd put it all behind him. He wanted to make things work with James, and he wanted to make sure it was all on his terms. Not James' terms.
"It's a substantial amount, if you must know. But we cut a deal, because I only wanted the one bedroom."
