A rememberence..

Where were you the day the world stopped turning?

I was at work. There was no real work that got done that day because we were all in conference rooms glued to television sets. I frantically called my daughter because President Bush was in Tampa and I was terrified the terrorists knew this. My son was in North Carolina fairly safe from any threat ( Read more... )

That sense of togetherness and completely united is what I miss about immediately post 9/11. It breaks my heart that it took such an act to bring that out in people and then see it disappear so quickly as if it wasn't real at all.

I was at school in Mississippi waiting for my first class to come in when I was told to turn on the television. To my shock, none of the kids (high school) cared. We had three bomb threats that week.

My older daughter had just moved to North Carolina to an Air Force city. When I finally got home and called her, the city was in lock down mode. F-15s were scrambled from the base.

My younger daughter was in Yellowstone National Park getting ready to come home. She had some problems and had to wait a few days before she could get an Am-Trak ticket.

That is such a shame that hughschool age kids didn't care?! That is scarey when thinking about those same kids being the leaders of our future.

I was in my eight grade Lit class. Once we heard the news, the teacher rolled in the TV, and we all sat staring for the entire day. Classes were canceled. The principal didn't alert the students until after she confirmed that all the students who had parents/family in the NY/NJ/PA area were alive and well. Smart move!

I recall I had just been on my new job for just a few months....I had recently transfered over to a store a bit closer to home.....what I recall in the following days was how quiet it was at night. All flights had been grounded and they stayed that way for at least three days and three ngihts....no air traffic at all....well....every once in a while you'd see a jet, military on a mission..........but not like you would normally see at night, usually you see all sorts of flights going from here to there....in the night sky.....but for those three days, it was quiet.....it really was peaceful.......in its own way.

today at work....just like we did at the new store that I had transfered to , we hung the American Flag in the foyer of our store......I'm in a new store now,....we've only been opened since july of this year.....now we have the American Fly flying.....for the same reason, 9-11-07 (9-11-01)...
