Actually there IS an homage to the Mammoth Car early on. I recently re-watched the episodes that featured it and was surprised to find that the MC's horn blast still gave me the same chills it did when I was a wee lad. Wow.
The MAMMOTH Car! Yeah..I thought I had the name wrong but was too lazy to look it up.
That two-part episode still remains my favorite. The ending of the first part where The Mammoth Car is parked by the lake it's just knocked The Mach Five into with all lights blazing and that really scary horn blaring away can STILL give me the creeps.
The only episode of "Speed Racer" I never saw the conclusion to was the one where Speed had to drive across the Egyptian desert to a pyramid, get the gold statue on top and drive back to save Trixie from being sacrificed at dusk.
Dude, the one you haven't seen is called "The Race Against Time" - episodes 28 and 29, and they are available on DVD.
My faves were the ones with the Car Acrobatic Team, the one with the Motorcycle Apaches, and the one with the evil Mach 5, you know, the one that had wings. Man, the memories!
