If The Hood had simply put Tigra in a refrigerator, would it have been less offensive?

bendis, avengers, comics

And that's probably why I don't read Avengers anymore.

Despite whatever nonsense Bendis is trying to pull with the character of The Hood in New Avengers, I would direct you (if you're so inclined) to the miniseries "The Hood" by Brian K. Vaughn which is actually pretty good and would answer your questions about the character. The name comes from a cloak the guy took from a demon for instance.

And my original complaint was that Tigra shouldn't have been beaten by someone like The Hood because she's a lot tougher than that - almost on par with Wolverine in some ways.

The bellyaching online comes from the idea that the recent issue portrays violence against women just for the thrill of it - misogny at work. I wasn't offended by the issue in that way myself, but I do wonder just why Bendis chose Tigra for this beatdown when it could have been anyone.

If we find out that the Hood has some badass fighting power, or confusing power, or take-the-fight-out-of-Tigra power, then I'll let it slide.

I mean, what, they couldn't have picked goddamned Triathlon?

It's been speculated that the demon The Hood stole his hood and boots from may have actually possessed him, giving him that extra boost of power. Then again it's also been speculated he is really a Skrull, an answer I find pretty lame myself.

And I think Bendis just has it in for poor Tigra, period.

And hey, as long as Triathlon stays off panel he ain't hurting nobody. ;-)
