of the lightning One of Calathea's older children, Dazvellos takes great pride in his pure-blooded heritage, looking down on both humans and hybrids alike. He is affiliated to the lightning, beautiful and terrible, and Dazvellos has an affinity for stealing the bodies of human females. Now that he has acquired Nicola Avery, however, the form takes new entertainment. Mercilessly cruel with her, he thinks eating her too soon would ruin the fun.

tongue of many tones Sneaky little bitch, no one's quite figured out how such a stupid monster has managed to survive for so long. Stephanos goes from body to body, leaving his mark behind in human tongues. He may be stupid, but he's still dangerous, picking boys and girls with the promise to offer them protection and fascination. He is as hungry for flesh as he is for knowledge, indulging in his curiosity with those willing to share what they know and feel. He bites meat and crushes bone after learning everything about what goes in the mind. Stephanos can be recognized by the colors of his mutated tongue: orange and purple.

playing all the games Kulshedra quickly performed the a rise to power when she took the body of a millionaire heiress and vanquished her entire family. Ruthless, manipulative and sadistic, she has been gathering her own little cult of monster hybrids and human slaves, using them for protection and entertainment. Few of her enemies are brave (or stupid) enough to challenge her power, and she makes sure traitors learn their lesson. Kulshedra is known for her appetite of female flesh and poisonous blood. Rumors that she desires to take Calathea's place are fueled by her overindulgence and what little she has done to put an end to the Devil's power. She rules through fear and false hope; she draws her slaves in with passion and a sharp tongue.

wayne hoffman
freak among freaks Wayne Hoffman was a little orphaned boy found roaming the streets on his own in a daze and with no apparent recollection of his past, just the certainty of his name and age. He was saved and taken in by Xanthia's charms to be properly raised into a sulfur slave, but Wayne suddenly decided to take off again, only to be found by Stephanos. He is now the monster's new favorite -- and willing -- human pet. But that's not quite how his story really goes... The little boy is indeed an orphan, but Wayne Hoffman is long gone and now the vessel to the gluttonous monster Ouroboros, betrayed by Stephanos big mouth and disgraced by the monsters' mother, Calathea, upon being revealed as a cannibal and traitor to his own kind. By miracle or fate, Ouroboros was left to rot in the remains of his own corpse, but the tricky little thing managed to escape and regain a body. He now walks in the guise of little Wayne Hoffman, eating humans and monsters alike, always hungry, for food and for revenge, making his way into Stephanos' grace so he can weaken and devour his brother.

the warsoul Born from the hate and desperation of the Sulfur Wars, Kurrence is a hybrid creature that feeds on the deep scars left by the slaughter. The mourning and pain effects him deeply. A solitary creature, he lived near a small fishing village in quiet torment until a boy from the village noticed him and followed him. Elian proved himself impervious to the creature's attempt to steal his body, which resulted in Kurrence possessing him in other ways. Kurrence finds a certain amount of peace in Elian's presence; except when he doesn't. The boy's suggestion that they travel has been particularly helpful in keeping Kurrence's mind of the divide in his hybrid blood.

the grandson One of the younger generation, Minotauro was actually raised by his human mother after she was raped. Looked down on for his soft ways, Minotauro has long since learned how to defend himself and those humans that he chooses to defend. He is fickle in his protection however, choosing survivors on a whim or physical desire. He is hardly above the past times of his kin, indulging in the casual feasting, raping, and slaughtering of humans when it suits him to, but he might let you go, if you ask him nicely enough. A devoted hunter of the sulfur slaves, he's received some interesting rewards from grandmother Calathea.

hope
the renounced one Hope has an ironic name. The child of a woman who had fought to follow through with the pregnancy against everything and everyone, fruit of Romazhvir's rape. The woman somehow saw the baby as some sort of her last hope in humanity - if she could raise Hope to work against the monsters and the Devil alike, she would have accomplished something much grander than herself. However, all that Hope was given was the contradictory and desperate love of her only parent, who refused to answer her questions about her father (There is no such thing, she'd say) and oppressed any of Hope's misbehaviours with what seemed to be terrified severity. Things took a grave turn when Hope tried to eat another child. Her mother grew distant and depressed from that moment on, treating her daughter like a freak, as Hope represented her colossal failure. She eventually died of illness, leaving Hope with unanswered questions and no one to turn to. She became used to running from monsters, dodging devils and evading every other side of the war. She does not know who or what she is - just that she is gradually giving in to the impulses that her mother tried so hard to erase.

treasured slave Daughter of a female monster and male human, Aspen was picked up by Kulshedra and taken into her forgiving lair of slaves when her mommy was killed off by one of her many purist monster relatives. Kulshedra seems to have a very twisted sort of affection reserved for this one, treating her almost like a second-in-command at times. When the matriarch is out somewhere, Aspen takes control of the house. While she isn't allowed to eat any of her fellow slaves, she's given the privilege of leaving the property to hunt for her own meals every now and then and, without fail, Aspen returns every single time. She has nothing to hide or lie about, or so Kulshedra thinks.

raised to indulge Beautiful, polite and sticky sweet, Xanthia was raised by a sulfur slave and fanatic. Her mother was more than willing to give birth to one of the Devil's children, vowing to help her child grow into one of his most loyal subjects. Xanthia does her best to bring the poor innocent humans into her father's lair, taking in young runaways and old survivors with the promise of shelter and salvation. She is the wise and seductive voice that whispers in their ear, telling them there is no other way. Only the He can save your soul, if you give it to Him. Would you rather have the monsters imprison you inside your own body, then fall into the abyss of their hunger? No, of course not.

the quietest hunter Amraerya likes small, confined spaces. More intimate, he thinks. Nowhere to hide. A child of the Devil, he moves amongst humans, largely unobtrusive, seeking souls that he believes suitable for Him. Cold and distant, Amraerya hates inane, idle sentences that lead to nothing and fill space. Humans and monsters alike talk too much about the pointless and inconsequential, and he has few acquaintances. Even those are held in relatively disdainful regard. But for all his pensive, silent moments, he stores a wealth of words and remarks that he releases in streams when the time is right, twining around his targets like sharp, cutting threads of disillusionment. Waiting in the dark, tight corners, Amraerya likes to remind all these lonely, tired humans that their lives are hopeless and their goals meaningless. He gives them a choice; they can continue to fail and suffer, or give themselves to Him. One way or another, however, even those that say "no" will eventually say "yes".

One of those humans whose body rejects monsters and devils alike, she doesn't worry about being taken, just eaten by her monster. She pretends that she can accept that, but she can't. When Daz isn't looking, she sometimes goes out to kill monsters so the voices will stop.

He sold his soul to become a sulfur slave, dedicating his life to slaying monsters mercilessly. He travels alone, always in silence, incapable of speaking words. The eternal silence is replaced by his supernatural ability, amplifying the screaming voices of humans trapped in their own body. Jules' help is often requested to spot the creatures that come from above. He prefers to work solo, hopeful that his sacrifice will have some significance in the end.

made prophet Maddened and damaged by the insanity that the world has become, Sebastien lies on his throne and on the floor all day, unwilling to move, desperate to fall asleep. Sebastien is fiercely protected by his own kind and offers them no real reward for it. His words are enough, all he has to keep him alive. He no longer knows of the world he lives in and he doesn't care; he just wants everything to go silent so he can finally sleep.

She managed to escape the hospital, rescuing some of the children before the monsters ate them and built a shelter for all of them. One day, when she was sneaking about to find food for the survivors, Stephanos caught her and turned her into his pet. Or so he seems to think. Sharper than the monster, Emily turned her back to everything she believed in ("never bow down to the monsters") so that she could protect her children from Stephanos. While she can't visit them anymore in fear of being followed by the monster, Emily writes them letters, hiding them from him.

Blinded by rage, he killed the monster with his bare hands, quite a feat for a human, but he ended up letting the anger consume him and, guided by the momentary insanity, he ate the monster. This led to a transformation, becoming both human and monster, a sort of screwed up hybrid, with part of the eaten monster living through him, sometimes - rarely so - taking over the mind and body of the Russian. Ever since, Sergej can only feed on the flesh of both sulfur slaves and monsters, or else he becomes so sick to the point of dying. There are two reasons for him not to let go of life: one, because he is a vengeful man and wants to kill all the monsters for the pain they caused his family and two, because the monster inside won't let him.

the avenging brother Nothing drives this poor, simple, insignificant human, save for the desire to avenge his brother, whose body was taken by the monster known as Stephanos. The Burton brothers had been the last surviving members of their family until they were separated by a monster. Austin only heard of his brother's fate from rumors. Enraged and broken, he picked himself back up and let the growing hate guide his steps. He refuses to become a monster's meal just as much as he refuses to become a sulfur slave. Austin will lie and deceive and use and kill whoever he needs to find his brother's body and give his life the dignified ending he deserved.

all the future ghosts Taken when she was only a child by Kulshedra, Sasha doesn't remember any of her life previous to the monster. She became her toy and her canvas, skin used to tattoo with ink and monster blood, giving her the need to feed on blood - and the ability to see a person's next action. She escaped Kulshedra's grasp when she was 17 and ever since tried to keep herself alive by being an informant for both monsters and rebellion alike. Of course it's a dangerous game and she has suffered multiple punishments because of it - the most dramatic one being forced to eat glass, managing to keep her voice but tends to have a slight lisp because of all the scars both the inside of her mouth and tongue got from it.
