As a huge fan of both fantasy and Greek myth, I'd have to say that I'm pretty much with you on this one, techix. Both genres are very special to me, and I'm sure that I like them both for similar reasons. The comparison in this case is made all the more complicated by the fact that LOTR is so grounded in myth and reads so much like myth.

"Clash of the Titans" has always been one of my favorite films because it does present classical myth in a very approachable manner. I love the depiction of the gods and goddesses of Mount Olympus. The robot "Bubo" is also one of my favorite elements. Sure, it was a way to make a lovable R2-D2-like character. However, it's awesome to think that a mechanical bird in that period of history is almost plausible.

monsterofmud and detonate_for_me, we will have to organize that viewing on crybaby bridge one of these days. Maybe we can invite the good folks of Mehan.

I replied to techix above, clarifying what I said. I never meant to over-generalize, except to say that the fantasy genre encompasses every type of fantasy, including Greek myth, comic book movies, and even most science-fiction. But yes, "fantasy" has eventually come to mean "western sword-and-sorcery" as a quick label, and I should've clarified that.

Why do I always think about Clash of the Titans like crazy every April and May?

I always feel old when I see they're remaking another movie that I remember seeing not too long ago. Sigh.

Ah come on, I was one of the first in line to see Van Helsing, even though I knew it would be utter garbage! Why? Because if some of my beloved characters were going to be tarnished really badly, I had to be there to know at the first chance available exacly how egregious the damage was. Its kinda hard to bad-mouth something without knowing it first.

So yeah, I'll be there at the premiere of this regardless, and I do know in this instance (unlike with Van Helsing) that it'll be a good film. But better than the original? Impossible.

I'm with you on this one. I saw a blurb about this scrolling across the bottom of the screen during "Access Hollywood." The only thing that went through my mind was: "WHY?"

I swear, the new version's probably going to look like 300.

I know! I thought about the 300 visual style in relation to this too, which would certainly be inappropriate. The first one had a very apt gauzy dreamlike style all its own.
