Theory of Achievement

Yesterday I had a three hour break from work before coming back in until 9 PM. I took the opportunity to go see Dreamgirls (2006) since it leaves the theatre this morning. I really liked it, and it inspired me to really kick myself into high gear in my own life. The film really shows how quickly the passage of time flows, and its terrifying to ( Read more... )

Where did you get to see it? It never played closer than Tulsa and OKC that I'm aware of. I'm looking forward to it!

Hahahhaha! Gee...I didn't know that was possible anymore. I'd still demand a theatrical experience first though.

"Young, middle-class, white, college-educated, unskilled, broke, drunk, yeah that's it""

I'm glad you enjoyed Dreamgirls oodles more than I did.

Babel and Children of Men are two of the best 2006 films; have a blast!

Shalom, y'all!

May I share your thoughts as a post on myspace? You may inspire others on my list.

I saw Dreamgirls earlier this week and completely agree with you. I haven't seen The Queen, Letters from Iwo Jima or Babel, but I'm still highly surprised Dreamgirls didn't get noms for Best Picture and Director. Heck, even Foxx gave a worthy performance. Great movie.

Why you certainly can repost this if you like!

Yeah, I'm surprised at the lack of Best Picture Nomination, though like you, I haven't seen The Queen, Letters From, or Babel yet either. Dreamgirls was a movie that I smirked at when I first saw the trailer. I was like, "Oh my God! How many more Motown rise and fall movies do studios think we can handle? I don't even like Supremes-esque music!"

But then I discovered it was directed by Bill Condon and that elevated the interest. After hearing so much buzz about it I realized it was something I should check out despite the subgenre. Even when I went in on a Thursday afternoon and took a seat all by myself in the whole theatre I was continuing to ask myself what the heck I was doing going to see something that's so not me. But as it began I found myself enraptured the entire time.

I had a similar situation last year with Hustle and Flow, and ended up really liking that too. I'm quickly learning to ignore subgenre and just go with it if its got a good reputation.
