This doesn't have all that much to do with your post, but have you read The Historian? It's a newer book. I just started reading it yesterday and i love it. I know you are interested in vampire novels, you may want to check this out when you get the extra time (if you do, that is!). It's definitely not the typical vampire novel, in my opinion.

Yeah, I meant to buy it and start reading it when it was released last fall. It's the author's first book, and she's in her forties. It sold to a publisher for the highest amount of money that has ever been advanced, and Columbia pictures was there to buy up the film rights as well.

From everything I've read about it (interviews with the author, reviews, idle talk) I think I'd love the pacing and the rich cultural information (I'm told it reads like a travelogue), but I don't know if I could get into the story part of it. I've already read how the story goes start to finish (including the ending), and don't think it would gel well with me.

I'm willing to give it a try and probably will once the movie production is underway, just so I will have a basis for comparison.
