Me too! I hook my iPod into my computer speakers and jam all day long. I have a hard time in libraries though because for some reason the music has to be in the background - directly in my ears distracts me.

I much prefer music to be not right in my ears as well. I also don't like being held in place by speakers - I am a grrrl who needs to MOVE! Although I do sometimes like the amazing sound quality provided by headphones. All the subtleties you can then pick up on.

I think hearing music must stimulate certain parts of the brain in such wonderful ways. That's the only way I can explain it - like having a mental itch scratched, one that I keep reliving over and over.

I've long found that I can purposely manipulate my moods through my musical selections. I also work WAY better with music, because background noises are endlessly distracting to me in a way that music is not. Especially music that I can control/choose.

A friend asked me to put together some tunes for background music for an event she organized and I rediscovered a bunch of stuff I hadn't listened to in eons. I need to just do that sometimes, I think - randomly grab something and put it on. Hey, cool! I'd forgotten I even had this!
