I've often been really, really thankful for those fork marks. Though I think it's kind of an odd cultural custom - like, how did all the peanut-eaters decide that peanut butter cookies needed to have criss-crossed fork marks on top of them? Where did that come from? It's so universal.
Also, part of my job is soliciting donations of cookies from volunteers to give to other volunteers. And people always want to know if we have restrictions, or quantities, etc. and my bias comes out because I ALWAYS say, please separate and label the ones with nuts! Even though, you know, I'm not going to be eating these cookies. But I want people to get in the habit.
Take, for example, your misuse of the word "retarded."
(I'm not the word police, and that doesn't offend me, and even *I* use retarded in the same fashion occasionally...but technically, it's in the same category as people using "gay" for "stupid." )
