Self-compact.

Okay, so this thing has been on my mind for a while now, but for some reason I've yet to actually sit down and put it out there. Well, I just read an article in Strib addressing the topic, thus I figure it's time to stop avoiding it.

I'm not entirely sure what the "turning point" was - whether I began paying closer attention to the trends at work, ( Read more... )

I've always wanted to try that, but don't think I could bring myself to follow through with it. You can always steal music by way of limewire.

i've been throwing this idea around for quite a while. my only issue with it is undergarments and socks. i've lots uberlots of weight and am still losing more. i have no problem getting my clothes from salvation army, with the exception of bras and underwear. something just worries me about that. maybe notsomuch bras, but underwear definately. and also, replacing things. i play guitar and percussion... picks break, strings break, sticks break... if you buy used strings, they aren't going to sound as good. plus i have no idea where you'd get them. used sticks are already worn in and probably near breaking. those are the only real issues i have with this. and then theres the whole moving to college thing later this year.

Well, in the article I read it notes that as an exception ((the unmentionables)), however the original framers of The Compact state that they really made a concrete list of exceptions, but rather leave it up to the user. If you go to their orignial website they talk about how they made it that way on purpose - it's really mostly about the idea, and each individual person testing their personal boundries. Like my example of getting piercings; Do I really need them? Not so much, but I don't really consider it breaking the rules ((or the bank)) if I do get them. And since using used jewelry and equipment to attain them is completely gross and out of the question, I have no choice but to dip into my bank account. It's worth it for me, so I don't really see the harm in making such exemptions.

And as far as getting ready for college is concerned, you want to do it on the cheap/used. I mean, that kind of stuff isn't really meant to last, and why would you want to put more money into something that's already costing you a pretty penny, ya ( ... )

True... hmm. I think I may give this a try. My bank account needs a rest, and I don't buy much more than I absolutely need, new or used, anyways. Rather than just doing things as I normally would, I'm going to try to consciously give it a shot. This could be exciting =]
