Two things I liked: *Sam's "give me the gun I'll do it myself" (I mean, whoa. Sam. Sam!) *Dean being able to have a moment of bonding with the Marine vet and their face-off
Two things I didn't like so much: *Using slomo on Dean in the teaser. (Did they forget what a powerful actor JA is and how he could have carried that and made it terrifying based solely on his body language?) *you've already mentioned the music, so I'll go with cheap trick hiatus cliffhangers. ;-b
Man, Sammy! JP did really well this week (as he has all season, really). But he's not allowed to give Dean shit any more about the events of "Faith," given the way he accepted his fate so readily!
Oh, god, that music. WTF? Putting them in the idyllic setting was bad enough. I'm shuddering remembering it like Dean remembering the waitress in Tampa.
*shy* Uhm, I thought it was more like he was maybe trying to cheer up the atmosphere, and then noticed that it was a very off-key to say. I think he has this guilty-look on his face in that scene, the one that says, "damn, wrong thing to say". I dunno. Maybe I'm interpreting too much :) Sorry for butting in ^_^
Totally with you on the music of the last scene. I kept thinking, when did this become The Princess Bride?
So much to love, and yet the middle felt empty somehow. Oh, but the stunt driving, the Dean-and-Sarge bonding, and the "what does that buy us?" and "who says I want to?" scenes were just astonishing.
I think this is the last ep that I know anything about, so that's good ... sort of like "Something Wicked," I felt like it suffered from my expectations. But that may have been me. :)
"Something Wicked" pushed a little too hard, I think. We've never heard Dean call Sam "little brother" before that so it seemed like too much, even though the rest of the episode explained so much about the boys in ultimately satisfying ways.
DeMONic seems right. But Dean is like a little baby duckling as far as his daddy's concerned, so of course he imprinted that (along with the collar flip, the dude, the "I'm workin' on it," and the contemptuous endearments).
Now who knows what "Echo 2-1" and "Corporal" and "Master Sergeant" mean?
Two things I liked: * Fine. Fine. Fine! Fine! * ZZ Top alias names. (I adore the rock-n-roll alias names. They should have them in every episode.)
Two things not so much: * The doctor at the end. "Buh bye! Have a good trip! Drive safe!" Dude, THE WHOLE TOWN IS DEAD AND GONE. Either be curled up in a fetal position or freaking out or something. Not waving placidly. * That Sam didn't take his shirt off to get his infected wound treated. ;)
Oh, I completely forgot the "fine," "Fine!" exchange. Yes! That was awesome. Also, Sam being completely unapologetic in his thread to be the annoying little brother in the end.
Yeah, the doctor thing was weird. Especially given that the demon!boy said that nobody was left (or everything was cleaned up, whatever) in the truck. What's THAT about?

Maybe someone was playing a joke on Kripke?

* the WTF license plates on that stranded car
* Dean + marine = replacement!daddy! Oh Dean.
Two things I didn't:
* Dean's "awkward" to the kid. Hey, you just killed his parents. Show a little compassion, would you?
* GODDAMNIT, KRIPKE.

And, yeah, the "awkward" line was another one of those clunky Dean characterization moments. Bleh. I agree.
(Also, y'all are cracking me up with the "two things," hee!)
