Wait, non-dairy means no cheese too?

So Olivia was recently diagnosed as being allergic to milk and eggs. Since I'm breastfeeding, that means I have to eliminate them from my diet as well. I did pretty well until last night, when I had a salad ( Read more... )

I bet you wondered why that salad tasted so damn good though, eh?

Really, I didn't notice the cheese taste! The red wine vinaigrette was rather overwhelming. :)

Have you been drinking ONLY organic milk and cheese's?

I'll try to dig it up, because I can't remember right off the top of my head where I saw it, but I recently read an article about a arguement over the mis-diagnosis of milk allergies. There's been a discovery of late that points not to an allergy of lactose, or other milk by products, but actually to the growth hormone that is fed to the cows. Parents have been reporting great success having changed their previously milk allergy/lactose intolerant children over to a purely organic dairy diet. The kids get the calcium they need, and don't have to suffer in the manner they did previously.

It's not the food that's killing us people... it's the shit they are adding to it.

Olivia got hives from her skin contact with regular ol' HEB brand milk. But I'm pretty sure the skin prick test they did at the allergist was just with the proteins that cause the allergy, not sure what impact growth hormones would have on the serum used for allergy testing.

Go totally organic for 45 days.
Don't be surprised if her symptoms subside and/or disappear.

I have a friend of mine, lives in Magnolia... spent the last 20 years of his life thinking he was lactose intolerant. Went totally organic for all his dairy 2 years ago, and has never had a problem since.

Olivia's allergist told us that her eczema could be linked to her food allergies and said that once she was clear of the allergens, we might see an improvement in her skin. It's just been a couple of weeks and we're already seeing a big improvement. For now, I am content to cut eggs and dairy from our diet. It got a lot easier today when I found organic truffle chocolates that are dairy free. ;D Rice milk also isn't bad at all. Olivia's crazy about it and chugs it faster than the couple of cups of cow milk she had before.

Maybe I'll lose a few pounds since so much of the junk food I like is now off-limits. :)
