My car is currently covered with a half inch of ice and is sitting in a 3 foot snow drift.

Taking out the garbage was quite a challenge; there's a snow drift built up around our building's dumpster that comes up to my waist.

I just got back from a quick jaunt to the store, just to see if I could do it. My car had four inches of snow, a half-inch thick layer of solid ice, then four more inches of snow on top of that. It was pretty novel scooping the snow out from under the sheets, then pulling them off the car. I managed to pull the one on my hood off in one piece, only to have it shatter when I put it down.

It was almost post-apocalyptic out. Only a few other SUVs, and maybe one sedan. The train was stopped across three railroad crossings with the crossing gates drooping down and touching the road. I had the expressway all to myself in both directions. Pretty surreal.

See, if it was like that all the time, I'd totally venture out. But come commute time tomorrow, it will be pure chaos as inexperienced, under-prepared drivers hit the streets.

However, I don't think I could un-bury my car well enough to put chains on, which are now required on pretty much all the roads I use to get to work and back.

This is where working from home is kind of a curse; I can't claim I can't get to work when all I have to do is plug my laptop in...
