Heh. Fairytales are tricksy little things, and I appreciate that there was no happy ending. Lots of people forget that--that fairytales used to rarely end in happiness. Or rather they did--but not until someone got chopped to bit.

That said, the line, "Did they be dead" is quite brilliant, really. And so I admire your use of dialogue.

I like writing in kids' voices - they always ask the best questions. Like, why's the sky blue, and where does the sea come from, and why don't dogs have eyebrows, and why can't I lift myself up by my own shoelaces. Things the rest of us have mostly forgotten to ask.

Yeah, and as we said before - happy people are no fun at all, so I've called an official end to "happy endings". There's no such thing. From here on in, it's selling the relatives as bacon all the way...

I try and not to forget to ask such questions, myself.

Dialogue makes me antsy, and so I tip my hat to those who can pull it off, and pull it off well. Figure it's not so easy to listen to the way in which people talk, as one would think--not so easy to transfer it onto page.

::hee:: Down with happy endings, indeed!

(I actually don't mind them if they fit the story--but only if if if. And so if I'm ever likely to be disappointed with a book, it'll be with the ending.)
