Ok, I feel I need to admit to myself (and well everyone else who is reading this): I am a Sci-Fi Geek! Always have been, just never followed any series (other than the 'new' Star Treks)...until now

I am a Sci-Fi addict as well, and other than TV and movies, there are some books that you might enjoy that I've read.
The first is a series about Celts in space, odd I know but excellent all the same. The author is Patricia Kenneally-Morrison. If you haven't heard of her, she was married to Jim Morrison. She writes excellent stuff. Start with The Silver Branch, the Copper Crown and the Throne of Scone. If you like them it's easy to go on from there.
Otherwise, the Dune series if you haven't read them yet. Only the original 6 though! You'll find the prequels and sequels that the son wrote are absurd. And other than that, the Foundation Series by Asimov is VERY good, and not as hard going as one would think. I really liked them.
I'm heartbroken that my Galactica is gone until January. *sniff* I'm bored on Sundays now without it!
