Fic: "Dirty Little Truths," Hart of Dixie, Wade/Zoe, PG-13

Hart of Dixie's unintentionally raising a lot of questions about classism for me. Because, so far, Wade's been anything but the "town bad boy" the character is framed as on paper. Up through episode six, he's actually been the most consistent person in Zoe's life in Bluebell so far. He always drops everything to help her... including his shirts! So ( Read more... )

This really resonates. I think he really does believe that he's less than everyone else. Thats what makes Wade so interesting. He comes off as this super confident, almost sleazy sex-addict, but he's also the man who will stay up all night making gumbo for a friend in need, who sings his daddy down from his perch on top of the hardware store. I'm so glad that tptb gave the character depth to balance out the superficial things we know to be true about him.

It breaks my heart to know that this is a truthful reflection of the character, because he really Is so much more than he knows.

This is a really wonderful piece.

Thank you so much! Wade's one of the most fascinating characters on the show for me, partly because of how Wilson Bethel plays him and partly because of the writing, which has this huge gap between the bad boy he's supposed to be and the genuine, funny, caring guy he actually is. There's no *meanness* in him, for all that he's gone through and the "typical" role he's supposed to be playing on the series... and that's refreshing and compelling.

I completely agree. I really adore that the way they've written him isn't false. Like it never feels like his badboy persona is out of nowhere, or that his genuine caring side is either. I really enjoy the balance that they've struck. It's never too much on either side for me.

Please, oh please write more fic. PLEASE! :D
