This is one of those bizarre fic ideas that I sometimes get. You know...the kind that spawn 21JS/VM crossovers and whatnot. At any rate, it's out of ye olde noggin now, so I can move on to the NEXT crazy project (probably a 21JS/VM crossover! LOL ( Read more... )

*loves lots and lots* Ooooooo.... shiny!

I love the tone and the set-up (and Claude as a pick-pocket); I love the FLying Petrelli brothers, Hiro the Amazing, and Gabe-the-creepy-roustabout; I adore Claire the Invincible and sad, sad Mohinder the Mystical. Awww...

I would love to see more, but even just this piece gives me happy things to play with in my head.

Thank you! It's definitely given me happy things to play with in my own head. There's so much potential, so many things to be mined, and I'm glad it worked for you as a reader to see the characters in all those various roles.

This is really amazing! I love the way you blend the tone of Carnivale with Heroes and map the roles onto each other. I can picture it so easily that I'm now craving newspaper ads for this carnie!

BTW, a 21JS fic of any stripe would hardly be crazy. Unless we're talking crazy awesome. :D

Thank you! I'm glad you liked how I blended the tones and assigned the roles! I can totally picture newspaper ads and flyers and think I might have to wheedle a really good vidder to do a Heroes vid to the Carnivale theme song.

And far be it for me to self-pimp, but I've actually dabbled in 21JS fic before. A few stories, including embarrassingly AWFUL Suefic I wrote when I was 12, are archived here.

That would be so cool! And now somewhat tempting to me, since I dabble in vidding. But my comp is sort of... in need of a nuclear strike, at the moment.

Ohhhhh. :D

This was an excellent story! Thank you for writing it. I really liked the blending of Carnivale with Heroes. The idea of Linderman as Management made a lot of sense to me, as did the way Hiro and Ando join the group. You worked in so many characters so naturally--Matthew the Mentalist! Isaac the sign painter! Monique, Nicole, and Meredith. And Claire. Oh, I ached for Claire-bear and Mohinder in particular.

And the troubled dynamic you just hinted at with Nathan and Meredith and the phrase "daddy lottery"--whew. "Gabe" was suitably creepy, and I felt for the rest of the carnies. Each one was isolated in his or her own way, even in the traveling show where theoretically they have as much in common with each other as with anyone else.

I cringed at Claire and Meredith's confrontation about selling her body. It was a really insightful moment, and really cool. The only Heroes I missed were Molly and little Micah, but I liked the dynamic, where I felt like Claire was everyone's kid (even though she isn't really a child anymore)!

Thank you for reading! I definitely wanted to give that feel that Claire is everyone's kid, or at least that everyone loves her and cares for her. It doesn't necessarily mean that if I wrote more, Molly and Micah couldn't also be amidst the carnies. They're probably out there somewhere. I wanted to fit in as many of the Heroes characters as I could without feeling forced. So, I tried to just start with places where it made sense: Linderman as Management, various people working there or being attractions, etc. It was a neat challenge to give myself and I'm really glad it worked for people reading it.
