I saw Mott the Hoople somewhat coincidentally on April 27, 1974. Trust me, I don't recall the date per se, I looked up when they played on a local venue site-
Subliminally maybe? :o) Actually, I saw Steppenwolf as I had a twinge of nostalgia and they were a band that I had enjoyed in the 60's. I love(d) their song The Pusher, more than Born To Be Wild. Definitely a head phone song!
How times changed... During my first solo ride in our brand new Plymouth Voyager (solo = no child in the car seat), to get gasoline, I had the radio jacked up and what should come on? Born To Be Wild! Yeah... not exactly Captain America, eh?
And my first plush wolf was named Stephan as a nod to the group ;o)
A friend had a friend who could get decent tickets for bands of the day. Honestly, some of the concerts didn't really interest me other than my friends dragged me along (though not unwillingly) with them.
I saw the three you guessed. Edgar Winter was at the Providence Civic Center and was a disappointment. Shanana was an outdoor concert at a small park nearby- great rock-and-roll doo-wop stuff.
Johnny Paycheck I saw with a work friend because he wanted to go. He and I jumped the fence around the trailer where the singer was quartered because my friend wanted to meet the guy.
My youngest is jealous that I saw some of these bands and brags to his friends about it... I myself cringe when I think of some of those times ;o)
Remember Woodstock? Think hard now... He tells me of all these pony-tailed greys he runs into claiming to have been there. I say "Yeah, everyone was there. Every_one..." ;o)
I'm going to have to stretch my memory (or what passes for it) to see if I've even been to ten concerts. ^_^; If I have, I'll have to add this to my next entry. (Else, eh, maybe I'll just soften the terms =:)
Of course, I especially wish I'd seen 1980s Queen - but I didn't really get to see any bands until my first, ZZ Top's "Afterburner" tour.
Confession: the meme should be titled Bands Seen vs Concerts. I had a lot trouble coming up with this list and resorted to individual bands or I would have had only 7 to put down. I thought I was going to have to resort to listing third tier backup bands to make it to 9!
Queen was exciting. I had their first album and their second had been released the month before but I wasn't as impressed with it as much as their first. Seven Seas Of Rhye was the hook for it.
Drat. I was going to say Sha Na Na. We only have two in common: Grateful Dead and Black Sabbath, though honestly I have zero recollection of the latter, which is extremely odd to me, considering they were one of my very favorite bands. (Deep Purple played at that same concert, and I definitely remember them, so it's not like I have total amnesia for that night's event, I just don't remember Black Sabbath being there!)
Sha Na Na was an impulse event. I don't know who talked me into it anymore but it was enjoyable enough. Hell, I had my 1949 Chrysler and although I didn't look like a greaser I could talk the talk at the time ;o) I could even do a mean Big Bopper imitation

I'm going to guess Edgar Winter, Johnny Paycheck or Shanana, for no other reason than those are the only ones I don't know.
