inlovewithnight emailed me the link to this bit of ep commentary/meta by hossgal and I ended up rambling at Night and poisontaster via email. So I decided to clean it up and add to it, pop on to LJ and post it b/c people (mostly exsequar) are telling me I should post more of the meta that lives in my email and chat interactions ( Read more... )

supernatural, fangirl is a verb, meta

I think Dean mentioned "coffee shops that don't sell coffee". Code, I'm sure, for all the happy drugs you can easily buy for fun and relaxation;) You used to be able to check in your bags at the hostels and buy hash on your way out the door---but you didn't hear ME say that;)

Nor did you hear ME say that they do too serve coffee, very GOOD coffee in fact, as well as having an actual menu at the back counter listing the relative qualities, styles and prices of your cannabis and psychotropic fungus options.

*coughs* Yup, never heard me say that.

Oh, god, I miss Dutch coffee. Best. Coffee. Ever. (No, really, I mean the coffee.)

It's hard to type with a cat draped over my left arm, but I'll give it a shot.

John could kill Sam, if it came to that, but only Dean could save him.
John might be able to save Sam, but he's also capable of killing him. Dean's not--at least, not in his current mindset--and John knew that. He gave Dean two options--save Sam or kill him--knowing that to Dean, that's really only one option. Dean will never give up trying to save Sam, but John might have.

I think that this knowledge played as big a role in John's decision to trade his life and the Colt for Dean as did his desire to save Dean's life, which is somewhat troubling because it means he saved Dean not just because he loves Dean but because saving Dean served his greater purpose. Granted, it's a purpose Dean would have wanted to serve, given the choice, but it makes John look pretty cold-hearted.

DEAN WINCHESTER talked about going to Amsterdam and did he mention the legalized prostitution? No, no he did not. He mentioned the coffee shops.
Please. When has Dean needed to pay for sex? It's simply not relevant to the boy.

I don't have the words to respond to your Dean meta of AWESOMENESS, so I'll come at it sideways by saying that interpersonal relationships are one thing about acting that I think can't be faked. I think Sam developed as the alpha over Dean's beta because Jared owns Jensen's ass, whether you want to read that in an RPS way or not. In other roles I've seen Jensen in, he's fit really well into positions of second-in-command, able to lead people but not having the sheer amounts of intimidating charisma that it takes to be in charge of EVERYONE. But eh, YMMV. It's just a thought that occurred to me.
