"Happy birthday, Val!" Ben said, beaming at the baby, who was glowering at him from under her (frankly hilarious) pink and bedazzled birthday crown. Ben was hoping this would nip the "want to wear the Queen of Naboo's headdresses" thing right in the bud.

"Cake?" Val asked pointedly, looking from one dad to the other.

"You have to blow out the candle first, sweetheart," Ender said wryly. "Or at least pretend to, and then Ben can blow it out."

"Cake," Val said firmly. "And NO HAT."

"Nuh uh," Ender said. "You'll have no cake and all-hat if you don't blow out the candle like this."

He blew out a little bit of air.

Val screwed up her face, then blew in the general direction of the cake.

"Good job!" Ben said, waving the candle off using the Force.
